Estate Sale Finds

Last Saturday I noticed a neighbour was having a garage/estate sale so my Dad and I popped in to see what they had for sale. As it would happen the woman that lived there was the “mom” of the house I currently live in. Her husband had built it in the 1950’s and had it moved to this patch of land next to the creek. All seven children lived there, the 5 girls in one of the bedrooms. Two of them were present at this estate sale and laughed about how small the kitchen was. How their mom knew to evacuate the kitchen before the bus arrived or she would be overwhelmed and cornered! I agree 100% That’s why I’d like to open up the space so it isn’t so claustrophobic.

The woman collected everything you can imagine from spoons to fine china, Avon bottles to Garfield toys, VHS cassettes galore… I picked up a few things I thought were neat such as these two vintage phone Avon bottles (no I haven’t smelled them!), a decorative mirror and two matching night stands that need some love. I seem to be on a vintage phone kick lately, I don’t know what I like so much about them but they’re so pretty and unique! I also was drawn to this decorative mirror too much like previous ones I have thrifted, once painted they become modern pieces.

On our way out I noticed these two well-loved night stands or side units underneath other items. They caught my attention only because they were of the same style and feel of one of my favourite pieces of furniture, the old hutch I refinished for my living room. Much like the hutch the response was “umm you like those?” which is understandable as they are not in great shape, lots of dings and dents, drawers that don’t really work… but I see the potential. While I was making the video below I laughed as the drawers were really faulty… moreso than I realized, but that’s okay!
