Fabulous New Bag

neonpurse I tried out a new trend yesterday and I would like to proudly say I rocked it! Although the outfit itself is a combination I’ve never tried before, the new neon bag I snatched up at Value Village really seals the deal on this one! I’ve officially decided this is my favourite colour of the month!

It really makes this whole monochromatic look pop. I saw on Instagram recently women sporting shorts with their blazers – so I thought it was worth a try. The main reason for wearing it was quite simply, the AC in the store is way too cold for me! I’ve said it a hundred times but blazers are awesome, especially this simply tailored RW&Co 3/4 sleeve one. I also have it in a dark sage green!

blackwhitebracelets I also wanted to comment on my jewellery for this outfit. It worked so perfectly with the outfit, a fun blend of sparkle and attitude! As part of my adventure in eBay shopping, these two pieces were among my favourites from the latest shipment.

Try Something New!

emeraldgreenwithlace Once week I have a goal for myself to re-inspire, if that’s even a word, to mix and match different items in my wardrobe. I often find pieces that I really like but can’t seem to find anything to match. The same story I hear every day from women I meet: “Its pretty but what do I wear with it??”

Women all over the world are exploring the exciting side of fashion, mixing prints and patterns, florals with stripes, poka dots with houndstooth… As much as I’d like to say “go nuts!” I myself, am reserved in this trend. I still get stuck in having the same tones, more matchy-matchy at times than these die-hard fashionistas. I saw an advertisement for a local boutique and the mish-mash of fabrics hurt my eyes, honestly it would give me anxiety to combine two wild prints in the same outfit!

Now this lace skirt was consigned at the Store a few weeks ago. No label just a unique style and a perfect fit. I had no idea what I would wear with it at the time, so for a solid week it hung there on my rack. It tormented me. Finally I sat down and looked at all the tops I had in my closet and then turned my attention to all the tank tops I had piled up on a multi-hook hanger. This rich emerald green (or Christmas green as they say) struck me instantly. I knew I had a bold necklace with a variety of greens mixed together, it just might work!

And this you see, is the final outfit. Not at all what I would normally wear, but with the same accents and finesse that I seek to incorporate into my outfits. Sometimes all you need is a thick belt and a high waist to make a look come together!

Turquoise Fever

turquoiseblouse For as long as I can remember I have been in love with turquoise. What more can I say, its simply a beautiful vibrant colour. My coworkers are never surprised when I walk in wearing something new in this colour, usually full of wild prints and layered accessories. Naturally I have a lot of jewellery that is the same palette, both light and dark tones as well as matching sandals.

turquoisesws My recent favourite pieces in this eye-popping shade, is a simple dress by Streetwear Society (I was surprised too!) and this lovely sleeveless blouse. Both are super easy to style up when you all have all these matching accessories to play with!

Blended Textures

lightrose I was super impressed with myself after discovering these two pieces in my closet were almost exactly the same shade of pale pink! I am trying to be more adventurous in my pattern and fabric mixing and this is a great instance of where it worked out beautifully! I adored this Antilia Femme blouse I found at Value Village some weeks ago. I am really feeling the dusty rose and gold combination this year!

The skirt is by Joe Fresh (I know right?!) consigned at the Store a couple months ago before the weather was warm enough to wear it. It certainly is a favourite of mine not only because of the colour but the lace-crochet style it has. I love dainty feminine details don’t you?

Royal Blue

bluegreenplaidskirt I think its safe to say I have converted to the love of blue. This rich royal blue skirt by Dynamite was consigned at the Store the other week and I thought it might be a bit cutesy for me, turns out its perfect! Its the right length, has the premade loops for a belt and sits perfectly on my waist. Way to go Dynamite!

Up until recently I didn’t own much that was blue, never cared for the colour honestly but this deep rich royal blue really has me hooked. I’m currently sporting two different looks incorporating the colour, my Cleo blouse (that gets constant compliments!) and my American Eagle plaid shirt.

blueskirtdynamite I have been following tons of stylish ladies on Instagram, admiring their use of blended prints and patterns. I still do not feel that I am that adventurous, but when I wore the plaid combination to work yesterday the responses were along the lines of “now how cool is that?” It was an easy-no-brainer look I put together, letting go of my usual insistence that the colours be exact.

I know how a great selection of stackable bracelets in the same colours too!

Blazers Rock My World

brightcherryblazer All year round blazers are a staple in my wardrobe. They are so easy to wear whether you leave it open or buttoned, cuffs long or rolled. I really enjoy layering accessories when it comes to my outfits combining scarves with long beaded necklaces with a bright blazer over top. At The Store we find blazers to be a difficult sell. The customers seem to like them when they see me wearing them with a pair of skinny jeans and scarves, but they just don’t know how to style them on their own.

This bright coral pink blazer by Mexx is my latest addition to my collection. Brand new brought in for consignment, with its adorable grey and white poka dot interior adds that little something extra. Its vibrant colours like this that make me feel bright all year round – even after the rest of society converts to black and grey, I’m still strutting around with bright pinks, corals and turquoise!

Although I can’t wear them all day long, these Nine West nude pumps are a sexy addition to a casual outfit like this. Its amazing how stylish an outfit can become with a little heel and pointed toe!

Blue Bayou

bluecleo Ok new favourite outfit! Haha I’m sure I say that all the time, but this outfit has been in the making for the better part of a year. In working at a women’s consignment store I see a phenomenal amount of clothing in a day, in a week, in a year. Our shoppers often ask if we ever have paycheques because we must buy up all the “good stuff” right when it comes in. The response we have is typical, no it doesn’t always fit – but more importantly – why buy it if it isn’t WOW?! Now this blouse has come and gone in the store at least once or twice in the last year or so. It’s Cleo, not sure what season but I absolutely loved it the first time I saw it.

Sadly the first time around it was a plus size and at the time I wasn’t doing my own clothing alterations. That would have been a difficult job for just a simple blouse too. But my motto with the consignment store is: there will always be another one or something better. I said goodbye to the first blouse as it came and went. To my delight another blouse came in recently, probably larger than I would have chosen if I had bought it new, but wow what a blouse. I’m not particularly a blue person, but this blouse makes me convert!

All the mixed blue jewellery I had waiting for the perfect match are finally put to use with this blouse. It also has other tones, white and peach so I can mix and match! Love love love everything about the whole outfit!

Leopard Envy

leopard It may not look like it, but I spend a considerable amount of time ensuring everything in my outfit flows from my hair to my ears, neck to wrist, top to bottom… Some days I spend less and just wing it, other days its very calculated. I like to joke that every year (heck every week!) I change my interests and style to keep myself rejuvenated. Last year I hated yellow, this year I love it. Same can be said for leopard print, or any sort of animal print for that matter. I think I had it reserved in my mind all these years as being for women that are of an older generation as usually I would see it in vibrant zebra designs with random sequins (a la TanJay or Alia)…

Certainly not my taste, but more and more recently I am being drawn to subtle animal print just as a print in general. I would feel the same if it were flowers or symbols of any kind. It adds excitement to an outfit much like my statement necklaces do. In this particular outfit the shirt is both simple but loud at the same time. The colour palette is subdued but styled in such a way that it is business casual. You know me, jewellery makes every outfit pop!

Double the Excitement

whitedress Now this is a story. When you think, yeah I probably shouldn’t go thrifting because I was just there and odds are there is nothing new and definitely nothing I need. Well it was a long day and I needed to unwind! (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!) So I popped into the Village and perused the dress rack to discover a gorgeous white dress with a crochet top section, drawstring and beautiful lines. This dress was brand new with the tags still on, a brand Chelsea I believe, if only I had written it down before chopping out all the labels… wasn’t a brand or company I had ever heard of. It was $14.99 which normally I wouldn’t bother with but I thought what the heck, it was completely me I just had to know.

turquoisedressI take a few steps down and wouldn’t you know it, a second dress identical with tags as well in my absolute favourite shade of rich turquoise! I snatched that one up to on the chance that the first one fit. I only have one word to describe these dresses: perfection. Adjustable straps? Check. Crochet details? Check. Shapely design? Check. Favourite two colours? Check. I was blown away I didn’t think again about not having a coupon I was buying these two straight up because I would never find anything so beautiful and so comfortable. To this day they are my favourite, although I haven’t worn the turquoise out yet the white is definitely the easiest dress to accessorize!

*Update: I tried out the turquoise, LOVE IT!

The Quarterly Re-Arrangement

livingroom3 It seems every 4 months I feel the urge to rejuvenate myself through changing my home. At last look in September I repainted some of my existing furniture to blend into the space better. I had been quite busy with work and travel so I hadn’t thought too much more about changing it up but recently I started feeling my slump and decided to redo the living room. Usually these are a catastrophe because I make the decision to change late in the day on let’s say a Sunday.

livingroom1This time however it was a gorgeous sunny summer-like day in May and thought, hey, I’m going to draw out some ideas first! Sadly the furniture never fits quite like your drawing suggests but it was a new look that I was feeling regardless. Unfortunately my futon is much larger than I think it is, so the diagonal across the corner space was just not plausible. One day when a smallish couch comes into my life the design will work better. I also made a huge change, not so huge to me but shocking to most people. I removed my tv from my living room! I wasn’t using it anyway, and I prefer the feel of the room without all seating facing this big black screen. So it has found a home at my parent’s house.

livingroom2 With the tv gone I was free to utilize the lovely storage unit for a more aesthetic purpose: my plants! My mother has been loading me up with potted beauties now that I’ve started learning how not to kill them! I absolutely love the space now because of all the green, it feels so inviting. My chairs are now in a cozy conversational setting – it all just feels cozy! I think this is my favourite setup so far it really feels good.
bedroom I also took advantage of the disaster that is me organizing my house – to redesign the bedroom too! Over the years I’ve started piecing together bedding in my favourite colour palette: brown, green and turquoise. Much like the mixed prints in the living room I apply the same technique in my bedding. I swapped out the curtains for a sheer light print – which occasionally requires me to wear a mask over my eyes to sleep but for the most part it really opens up the room! The bright sunshine makes this small dark room a whole new space! I changed all my clear plastic boxes (for my bead storage) to transparent green which makes the room pop too!
