Big Buddha Poncho

Rose Sparkle PonchoNow the idea of this month is to shop in one’s own closet, however there are a few exceptions to the rule – its damn near impossible to do a “no-shop” when you work in fashion retail!! 🙂

Although I have been practising being very brutal with myself, thinking over items for considerable time before making a decision: Will I wear this? Is it worth the price? Will it go with what I already own? How unique is it? Asking ourselves questions like this any time we are shopping is a great way to make your budget that much easier. Our homes are full of things we don’t need, impulse buys and things we should have returned to the store. All in all we shouldn’t be so lazy, think before you do things that effect your cash flow.

Rose Sparkle PonchoI slipped up at the store (for my No Shop September) when this poncho style top came in, but everything about it screams me: the rosey coral tones, the hint of sparkle, the unique-edgy-ness of it all. For $10 I thought it would be a good idea to snatch up something to wear to work when the season starts to change.

Grey Linen Pants

Grey Linen PantsTGIF to all the thrift lovers out there! Today’s look is a repeat but I altered these NOA linen pants into capris because the length bothered me. I simply rolled them up to a length I was happy with, tacked with a few pins and then machine sewed the cuffs in place. I felt like adding a cuff made it a little more exciting than a straight hem.

I paired the new capri with an H&M floral blouse which I also altered in a similar way. Often I find our shoppers at the store are rolling their sleeves up, which gets me to thinking about any time I’ve worn a long sleeved top or jacket. I recently altered all of my blazers to be 3/4 length in the sleeve – for this very reason. They are much lighter and more flattering with a shorter sleeve. For this blouse, the long sleeve didn’t roll due to its light silky nature – so I finally decided to chop off the excess and add a hem.

And lastly, finished this fun outfit with a mini belt, flip flops and statement necklace!

Parisian Inspired Looks

blackwhitepinstripesRight now black and white stripes are HUGE in my summer wardrobe! Anything with stripes that comes into the store I get all giggly! If you’re like me and you’ve always been afraid of stripes, fear no longer! I’ve put together three looks recently that are simple, fun and Parisian inspired that show how you can easily wear stripes – if they are the right stripes!

This top is a beautiful long sleeved dark navy and white striped number by Jones New York – I was a sucker for the gold button detail on the shoulders! Black capris by Le Chateau, low heel wedges by American Eagle paired with red acccessories! This look was extremely flattering especially for my wide hips! Who knew?

One of my faves lately, a long pinstripe maxi skirt with no label, white tshirt by Reitmans (again with shoulder buttons!), mini belt, new flats from ACo and mixed gold white and black bangles. Now this is everyone’s favourite new dress by La Classe Couture, although painfully short, I simply chopped a pair of black leggings into shorts and voila! I have been painting flats lately and these used to be coral but was itching for a pair of red ones. Couldn’t find any at the Ardene or thrifting so I decided to paint these up!
