The Many Shades of Blush

feb5finalHow long would you hang on to a unique item in hopes of eventually finding the perfect pieces to match it? 6 months this vintage skirt has been hanging in my closet, front and centre, in hopes of one day finding a matching top. A handful of hopefuls came home but went back out as I searched for the right shade of blush to match this skirt. Sure you could put other shades with it, but every one I tried bothered me. It wasn’t quite right and for this type of skirt I felt like it had to be a certain… je ne sais quoi.

Now I don’t necessarily feel like this top is “the one” I do feel it was a close enough match to warrant a test run in real life rather than being sentenced to serve lonely days in my closet. This sleeveless crochet style top by RW&Co was brought in for consignment last week and I thought, “maybe, just maybe” this would be the right colour. Sure enough it was!

I kept the look low key with a long wrapped scarf and matching earrings (I do have the matching necklace but I thought that would be a bit much.) My nude pumps by Nine West go with everything and I am saddened to know that their time is running out. They were very worn when I got them in the summer and now your foot rolls like there is no sole left. Sigh. One day I will find another pair and you will be mine.

Blended Textures

lightrose I was super impressed with myself after discovering these two pieces in my closet were almost exactly the same shade of pale pink! I am trying to be more adventurous in my pattern and fabric mixing and this is a great instance of where it worked out beautifully! I adored this Antilia Femme blouse I found at Value Village some weeks ago. I am really feeling the dusty rose and gold combination this year!

The skirt is by Joe Fresh (I know right?!) consigned at the Store a couple months ago before the weather was warm enough to wear it. It certainly is a favourite of mine not only because of the colour but the lace-crochet style it has. I love dainty feminine details don’t you?

A New Sleek Style

MINTBLACKSometimes I am slow to take on new trends if I even dabble with them at all. A lot of times fads are simply overdone and they become either a tight disaster or a sloppy mess compared to the original. I tend to look at the positive aspects of the upcoming trends and incorporate it into the style I already have. My mother is a petite woman and pulls off the leggings-with-tunic top very well. She has this artsy unique way of combining pieces.

I had worn leggings in the beginning when they became the latest craze, but I found people would start making remarks that suggested I was dressing like my mother. Not that it is by any means a negative, I simply do not like being compared to the style’s of others. I like to think my look is my own.

I took a long hiatus from the leggings trend and went back to wearing jeans, panty hose with skirts, that sort of thing… what I was comfortable with. I think a big part of my hiatus was from simply hearing the negative remarks that other girls around me were receiving (whether they were aware of it or not) about them being too big to be wearing those, or that their shirt wasn’t long enough to cover their bums… I think I was subconsciously afraid of having those same comments said about me.

I have recently decided to restock some fun leggings to reintroduce them into my style. I had picked up a bunch of pairs for $2.50 during an 80% off sale at Ardene. I decided to be smart this time around and go for a large size because they stretch and often in those “youth” stores their sizing is not meant for an adult. My safe size is always Medium, for these leggings I thought at least I buy too big I can take them in. I even got a pair that were XL…. lo and behold, they all fit perfectly! My repeated lesson: never go by sizes!!

For a friend’s birthday dinner I decided to dress a little more stylish but with a sleek, girl’s night meets pastel sort of feel. I tried out a pair of black reptile print leggings from my pre-xmas purchase, over top of a pair that are fleece lined for warmth! I had thrifted this top recently from Forever 21 which is a large so it has more flow than a fitted one. Instead of going dark with a black jacket I decided to punch up the mint with one of my favourite spring blazers from H&M. Adding some assorted gold and mint jewellery I felt like a million bucks ready to celebrate.

Jackets: The Finishing Touch!

We all have our wardrobe must-haves, one of mine is a variety of blazers and jackets. I work in a clothing store and I find my body cannot stay warm regardless of the season, either its the bone-chilling air conditioning or the furnace doesn’t heat the room I’m working in. Blazers are a definitely must for work, then I can take them off should that magical day occur when I am warm!

Singles Awareness Day

Valentine's Day

SAD aka Singles Awareness Day aka Valentines Day.

At the office today was a special contest to win prizes if you wear pink or red. I realized I had worn most of my vibrant pinks and corals earlier in the week so I stared blankly at my closet wondering what to wear. After pawing through I realized I had a lot of vintage pastel pink I could wear.

The top is a very unique spaghetti strap blouse with ruffles. Such a unique piece that I go months without wearing because I conveniently forget how sweet it is! Not to mention I obtained the same colour leather jacket late last year! It is certainly a lot easier to style now!

For jewellery I wore my fancy glass and antique brass set as it really pulled out the pink accents.
