Country Style

Country StyleLately I’ve been favouring soft peach, ivory and cream tones in my wardrobe. Perhaps its just a result of how my thrifting adventures go! My most recent find is this orange blouse. I have had similar ones in the past but they haven’t fit quite right or maybe the colour was wrong. I knew at some point I would find the perfect one and I do believe this is it! No altering required!

In this first look I was given a cream coloured maxi skirt which I know I would never have picked out for myself. But seeing as it was free I thought I would see if I could style it up. I thoroughly enjoyed the label on the inside: XL. Yeah right. One of my many shopping philosophies is “just because it stretches, doesn’t mean it fits as sizes”. Nothing worse than seeing a large girl stretch out a top and brag about how a medium fits; or for instance the plus size woman that purchased this skirt thinking it was a true extra large fit, clearly it is not if a size 6 girl finds it “just” tight enough on the waist not to be bothersome…

The key to styling this skirt was quite simply a blouse I could tuck in and a thick belt to hide the very large elastic top on it. Yes I did try the fold down option but it just doesn’t suit the style of skirt, nor was that comfortable. For a layered look I paired my matching three piece jewellery set and a soft peach shimmer scarf (tied at the bottom to create the infinity look!) I received a lot of compliments on the look, probably mostly because we hardly see women wearing long skirts these days.

Country Girl Style In this second look I had finally decided to fight with this orange sherbet blouse by George. Now I normally avoid Walmart and other cookie cutter brands like the plague, however this blouse was so unique I couldn’t pass it up. However this blouse doesn’t fit. In this image you are not seeing the four safety pins holding everything in place. Take note gentlemen – sometimes this is why it takes a long time to get ready – things don’t fit!

The blouse has a wide set shoulder design, which wouldn’t fly with me so I safety pinned my bra straps to the gathered shoulders and saved myself a day’s worth of pulling up my straps. The base of this blouse is smaller than the rest, going inward in a very awkward way which doesn’t cooperate with my figure. To rectify this issue I simply tucked it into the skirt and pinned the thick brown belt to both the blouse and the skirt so none of it would move.

Although it does take some fiddling and awkward adjustments it did turn out very cute. I felt the lace details and brown boots added a very welcoming country girl vibe.
