Much like most of my other outfits, these pieces had to be altered in order to suit my body shape. This New York & Co floral skirt really didn’t fit at all when I tried it on, but every now and then there are pieces that you just have to have no matter how much work they will involve in the end. I took it in two inches to make it a high waisted style and brought up the hem about the same amount so it came closer to the knee. Anything past the knee on my height makes me look frumpy.
Right now black and white stripes are HUGE in my summer wardrobe! Anything with stripes that comes into the store I get all giggly! If you’re like me and you’ve always been afraid of stripes, fear no longer! I’ve put together three looks recently that are simple, fun and Parisian inspired that show how you can easily wear stripes – if they are the right stripes!
This top is a beautiful long sleeved dark navy and white striped number by Jones New York – I was a sucker for the gold button detail on the shoulders! Black capris by Le Chateau, low heel wedges by American Eagle paired with red acccessories! This look was extremely flattering especially for my wide hips! Who knew?
One of my faves lately, a long pinstripe maxi skirt with no label, white tshirt by Reitmans (again with shoulder buttons!), mini belt, new flats from ACo and mixed gold white and black bangles. Now this is everyone’s favourite new dress by La Classe Couture, although painfully short, I simply chopped a pair of black leggings into shorts and voila! I have been painting flats lately and these used to be coral but was itching for a pair of red ones. Couldn’t find any at the Ardene or thrifting so I decided to paint these up!
I like to refer to this look as “edgy meets high fashion”! I will admit this outfit didn’t come all that easily as it was probably the tenth outfit I attempted to assemble that morning! Things don’t always fall into place but I am exceptionally thrilled with how this look turned out in the end. Due to my 5’2 stature I did need to do some hemming to this maxi skirt before I could wear it. Tall girls need things longer, short girls need things shorter. Sigh!
I was unsure for probably two weeks about what would work with this skirt due to it’s black and white pinstripe. I originally thought a bright coloured blouse or shirt but none of those were quite right. I then decided to paw through my tops one by one and found this black one with gold dots. Although the dots are subtle I think it is a very cute mix of patterns.
I thrifted these fabulous American Eagle Outfitters low heel wedge pumps last week in the children’s section of Value Village – only $3.99! As depressing as it is for me to sift through the sparkles and Hannah Montana sandals, occasionally I do find the perfect gems such as these and of course my favourite gemstone toe flats by GAP Kids. Oh and yes I did notice that the sole of these shoes match the skirt perfectly but it certainly was not planned!
