The Sign of Defeat
“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
Yoga pants, athletic wear, sports wear, warm up pants, running shoes… what do all these things have in common? Fitness! Are the women wearing these things every day for work, for shopping, for errands – doing what you would classify as “fitness”? Sadly we are now a society that is lazy, too busy and sloppy. At least when it comes to getting dressed in the morning.
We can all have our bad days, let’s say an over-worked mom that was up all night with screaming children running late in the morning rushing the kids to school – that I can understand being in your lulu’s. But to wear black yoga pants as “dress pants” to an office or wearing athletic wear head to toe just to shop at the mall… that to me says “I don’t care at all”.
You can wear the most simple of outfits, even a simple pair of jeans can be dressed up without breaking your bank or costing you precious time. I guess its easy for me to say because I love clothing and planning outfits in order to improve my mood. I am a strong believer that how we look is a huge factor in how we feel. If I throw on a pair of lulu’s and a tshirt to run an errand, I feel uncomfortable, dirty and like I should rush back home so no one sees.
Now if I put on a composed outfit such as these, I instantly feel like a million bucks! One of the easiest ways to feel dressed up without actually trying, is adding a blazer. These are such a hard sell at the store, but they are definitely one of my favourite wardrobe must-haves. Women seem to be afraid of them, afraid to dress up or love the excuse “I’m just too busy” or “I don’t have time to shop I just threw this on”… Does your employer not care what you wear? Does it not bother you that your clients at the bank are fidgeting because of how uncomfortable they are seeing your girls hanging out of your super snug top?
Come on now it isn’t hard, mall stores even show you how to wear all kinds of pieces together… you could buy an entire outfit in one go if you wanted! I know an office that put a strict dress code in place to eliminate the problem of one careless employee showing up to work reception in torn jeans and worn out flip flops.
Get up a little bit earlier, or lay out your clothing the night before. You’d be surprised how great you feel that day!
