This is the first of two months of my “No Shop Challenge” which I must say I was exceptionally impressed with how the first month panned out. Only at the very end did I cave and pop into Value Village – however I was very strict on myself, I bought no clothing (barely looked at it in fact) and succumbed to my weakness for valid reason – see below.
Week of September 1-6 – $81
Week of September 7-13 – $79
Week of September 14-20 – $47
Week of September 21-30 – $69

September Income: $638 | Spending: $25 | Month End Balance: $613
I have been searching for months, if not years for a double sized comforter for my bed. The one I’ve been using was thrifted before I moved out west, looking at about 3 years now – and it is only for a single bed, so not really fitting. I also wanting to incorporate that beautiful celery-apple green colour more throughout the house and wouldn’t you know it, during a “no shop” I would find the perfect bedding. I even found pillow cases that were the same green but a different print!
But all in all I was very diligent, I didn’t spend my time sifting through racks after exhausting days at the Store. What I find interesting about this month is that my income was less, and my spending was minimal – I didn’t walk away too much less than the previous month. I didn’t come out on top by any means, but it was at least a good experiment to see if I would have a surplus of cash without thrifting. As it turns out, its all a gamble! Best to smart thrift all the time because you never know when you’ll have the cash.
